GIMP

GIMP: (GNU Image Manipulation Program)

It’s a free image editor program developed in 1995 by two students at the University of California.
This cross-platform image editor is available for GNU/Linux, OS X and Windows among other operating systems.
It allows to manipulate or change any images so you can customize them as you want to.

  • INTERFACE GIMP:
Here I post an image where you can see the different elements the Gimp program has, such as the main toolbox, the tool options, the layers, channels, routes and the brushes, patterns and gradients among others.

To make it, first I made a screenshot of the image on the Gimp program.
Then, I pasted the image on a Word document and I put the different numbers and names of the Gimp program parts.

Finally, I converted the image into JPG using the program Paint, so you can see it below.

-Interface: It's the communication between a person and a computer.

  • BOX TOOL GIMP:
Here I post you an image of the different tools such as brushes, patterns, gradients, front and background colors... which can be found in the GIMP toolbox, so you can also know the function of each element  and how they work to edit images using the GIMP program.

1.  Tool icons: They are buttons which activate tools for selecting, painting or transforming an image, among other purposes.

2. Foreground/Background colours: The color areas show the GIMP's current foreground and background colors in many operations.

3.  Brush/Pattern/Gradient: These symbols show GIMP's selections for: the Paintbrush, which allows you to paint on the image; for the Pattern, which is used to fill areas of an image; and for the Gradient, which is used when an operation requires a range of colors.

4. Active Image: It`s the image you are working with at any given moment. You can change the active image by clicking the icon to display a dialog with a list of open images and selecting the one you want to make active.

  • WINDOW INTERFACE:
Here I post you an image with the different elements you can find in the image window in Multi-Window Mode when you insert an image on the GIMP programme.

In addition, there are two modes:
-Single-Window Mode, in which the image windows seems to be absent and there are no new windows added, so images and dialogs are added in tabs.
-Multi-Window Mode you can see in the image below, which appears even if any image is open, so you can later modify your image comfortably.

  1. Title bar:  Barra de título
  2. Image Menu: Menú de la imagen
  3. Menu Button: Botón del menú
  4. Ruler: Regla
  5. QuickMask Toggle: Activador de la máscara rápida
  6. Pointer Coordinates: Coordenadas del puntero
  7. Units Menu: Menú de unidades
  8. Zoom Button: Botón de ampliación
  9. Status Area: Área de estado
  10. Cancel Button: Botón cancelar
  11. Navigation Control: Control de navegación
  12. Inactive Padding Area: Área de desplazamiento inactiva
  13. Image Viewer: Visor de la imagen
  14. Image Window Resize Toggle: Redimensionar el tamaño de la ventana de la imagen

  • GIMP FOX:
Here I post an image of the gimp fox I made using some tools of the GIMP program so you can customize your images by adding them some text or changing their background and foreground colors.

The tools I used to do this image using the GIMP program are the following ones:
  • Scale
  • Text: To add the words "gimp fox".
  • Gradient: To degrade the orange background color to a yellow one.
  • Background/ Foreground colors: To add the orange background.
  • The image of the Gimp fox to insert it over the other layers.
